What is Coaching?
The ICF (International Coaching Federation) defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential, which is particularly important in today’s uncertain and complex environment. I could not say it better.
I offer three primary types of coaching: personal/individual, manager and leadership. I believe coaching operates with a few fundamental assumptions:
- The client is the expert in his/her life, ultimately knows what is best, what he/she wants and coaching is a method that can explore and unlock it.
- The elements of life are interwoven. It is likely that what is influencing work, shows up at home. The pieces are interconnected so when changes are made in one arena, they often affect others creating change in life vs. solving for a specific issue.
- Coaching is a process of discovery and meaningful action that includes setting goals, tracking progress, making adjustments all while holding the client responsible and accountable for moving forward.
